With the quickly developing of network communication, more and more network neology come forth. From the point of view of communication and linguistics, the thesis analyzed the cause of network neology’s booming, stated the significant meaning of studying network neology, and summarized its kinds and characteristics. As a vital part of linguistic phenomena in network communication, network neology has some virtues such as lifelikeness and conciseness, but it also gives rise to some problems such as barbarism and nonstandard. It would lead to a great deal of new problems if above problems were not thought highly or solved promptly, for example, hindering the healthy development of network linguistic and bringing some negative influence to network communication. In view of this, the thesis pointed out the urgency to normalize the network neology.
