This essay uses critical approach to analyze two news stories, taken from leading media of the United States and China, which hold different stand points towards the NATO ’s bombing of Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia in 1999 Kosovo crisis. The two news items are analyzed primarily to show the way in which discourse is exploited by ideology, which by concealing social contradictions systematically relates to some set of social, psychological, and cognitive interests of the dominant class. The analysis also intends to demonstrate how discourse helps to constitute social structure including the system of knowledge and belief and the relations between social identities.
