How audience interact with a picture book: A preliminary study of audience ’s interpretation of visual and verbal symbols in science picture books
"Can picture books be a new form of publication to promote popular science?" This article describes an observation on audience ’s interaction with the texts of picture books containing science concepts. The definition of science picture book and how visual symbols and verbal symbols effect audience ’s interpretation of science picture books are mainly discussed. Moreover, this article also provides the information, collected from the interviews, about audience ’s general tastes, reading behaviors and opinions toward picture books. In the end, some suggestions to produce the prototype of science picture books for promoting popular science are proposed.
